Introduction of hot plate and magnetic stirrer:-
This instrument is used for the fast mixing of solutes in the solution. The magnetic stirrer performs this function. The hot plate provides the necessary heat.
Principle of hot plate and magnetic stirrer:-
The instrument is based on the principle of rotating magnetic fields produced in a metal plate. When a magnet coated by teflon is introduced in the magnetic field, it rotates and the chemicals get mixed up with the solvent.
Component of instrument:-
1. Hot plate
2. Magnetic stirrer
3. Control for temperature
4. Control for magnetic rotation speed
5. Pilot lamp
Operation of instrument:-
1. Put the beaker or conical flask containing distilled water (or any other solvent) on the plate.
2. Add the chemicals required for the preparation of the reagent and put the magnetic stirring paddle in the container.
3 Put on the main switch and by using the speed control knob, start the rotations of the paddle.
4. Bring the speed control knob to zero position when the chemicals are completely dissolved in the solvent.
5. Put off the main switch and make the final volume of the reagent by using required amount of the solvent.
Use:-
- Mixing of solution.
- Some time it incubate the plate.
Care and maintenance:-
1 Never put an empty beaker or glassware on the plate when it is hot.
2 After the plate is cooled to room temperature, use a plastic cover to cover up the instrument.
Specification:-
The important specifications preferred for the selection of Hot Plate & Magnetic stirrer are as follows:
1 Dimensions (Length & Breadth)
2 Speed range (R. P. M.)
3 Heating capacity
4 Number of stirring paddles
